It is now cost effective to use environmentally preferable products while maintaining the most beautiful turf and landscapes.   Conventional landscape fertilizers are associated with a feast and famine nutrition cycle for plants.  The nutrients are typically more rapidly available than the plant can absorb them and then run out before the next application so that the plant is deprived of nutrients when it needs them.  Alternatively, many forms of conventional fertilizers are not immediately available for certain plants to absorb (i.e. urea nitrogen and oxide forms of micronutrients).

Florikote® controlled release fertilizer is a more efficient means of fertilizing plants and turf in a landscape.  Florikote® ensures consistent nutrition for up to 12 months with 1 application (6 month applications recommended for turf) and will not flash release or leach during heavy rainfall periods.  A secondary benefit to the improved health of the landscape and reduced costs/labor is the reduction of nutrient runoff.  For its development of Florikote landscape fertilizers, Florikan received a Gulf Guardian award from the EPA Gulf of Mexico Program Partnership.

Florikan believes that a fertilizer must be customized to meet the environmental conditions of a given region and climate. Different fertilizers perform differently in different parts of the country and during different times of the year.    A sensible approach is to apply products that fit the application, provide the best plant response and require the fewest nutrient inputs.  This is supported by The Fertilizer Institute’s (TFI) 4R program to apply fertilizer using the right source, at the right rate, right time, and right place.
