Development

• Created in 2003 with support from NASA through its Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP).
• Florikote™ is the first controlled release fertilizer to encapsulate jagged edge particles and SGN 50 water soluble crystalline material.

How It Works

• A patented dual reactive layer polymer coating process that controls nutrient release over a range of 3 - 6 months in turf grade materials.
• Works through reverse osmosis - activated by moisture and the rate of release is only impacted by soil temperature.
• A smooth exterior coating with no breaks or fissures to ensure a predictable release.
• Benchmarked to 77 degrees F average soil temperatures - maintains integrity even in climates of extreme heat and rainfall.
• Coating thickness determines longevity up to 6 months in turf grade materials.

Fertilizer Efficiency and Plant Nutrition

• Florikote™ breaks the feast or famine cycle associated with conventional and inferior slow release technologies, ensuring that nutrients remain available to the plant.
• Florikan Landscape Blends ensure that the fertilizer is released gradually each day eliminating the chance of a “flash” release resulting in plant burn or the potential for nutrient runoff even during the summer.

• University of Florida IFAS Researcher Dr. Jerry B. Sartain, PhD has shown that 1 application of Florikan 6 Month Fertilizer has the same effects as conventional fertilizer practices on St. Augustine turf grass.

• Florikote™ resulted in higher Nitrogen uptake than the other treatments, although less total Nitrogen was applied.
• Florikote™ leached a lesser amount than any other treatment over the 6 month period.
