A Year of Growing Roots in Specialty Agriculture

Successful Florikan Squash and Zucchini Trials

2017 has been a year of growth for Florikan in Specialty Agriculture. From traditional crops to cutting edge farming techniques Florikan has contributed to Florida’s AG future in a big way this year, and we look forward to more in 2018.

Sweetgrass Farms in Sarasota Florida

Beginning with our work with several vertical farms in Southwest Florida and in Central Florida on greens and flowering vegetables. After much success with soil-based hydroponic growing with NASA and their veggie team, we asked “how can we take what we have learned and apply it to Earth?” This has lead to a succession of patents being awarded to Florikan for media-based vertical farming methods.

Bekemeyer Family Farm

Once applied to Sweetgrass Farms in Sarasota Florida, their success was beyond expectation. Once results were analyzed, the parameters could be adjusted and refined for additional crops. The second Florida farm to adopt the patented Florikan method was Bekemeyer Family Farm in Winter Garden, Florida and has translated this into a successful harvest of Strawberries and several other crops. Moving to a more traditional farming process, our overall company growth allowed us to reach more farms this year and begin trialing our products on products such as Squash, Zucchini, Cucumber and Watermelon. Our increased capacity at our facility in West Central, Florida allows us to custom tailor blends to each market sector’s needs; And the feedback from the AG community could not be better. Many farmers can now do much more with much less.

Squash and Cucumber Trials

As always, we cannot forget Florida’s most important crop – Citrus. The innovations we have made in our Citrus TOTAL and Citrus MAX lines, with additional coated Calcium Nitrate are making a big impact in resets across the state.
