2017 has been a big year for the collaboration between Florikan and the scientists in NASA’s VEGGIE program. The spring season saw Chinese Cabbage being grown with Florikan TOTAL w/Nutricote. Then in August a mixed leafy green crop was attempted that included Romaine Lettuce, Green Leaf Lettuce and Mustard Greens. Once again, NASA chose Florikan TOTAL w/Nutricote for this important mission. These crops were continually harvested up until Thanksgiving on the original CRF application. Everyone at Florikan was proud to have been part of the holiday meal on the International Space Station!

According to Dr. Gioia Massa of the Exploration Research & Technology Programs Office there are several big missions upcoming for FlorikanCRF to play a part in. First is ground testing of a new nutrient delivery system to help support late 2018 and early 2019 ISS experiments. The next is a more complex nutritional plan to allow astronauts to expand out from leafy greens to a small tomato crop. These experiments will involve Florikan TOTAL w/Nutricote, and Florikan NPK MAX w/NANO.

NASA is also looking to partner with Florikan in the development of a larger plant chamber to grow wheat and form of thale cress. These developments will all contribute to the end goal of longer term human spaceflight. Florikan has had an incredible year partnering with NASA - and 2018 promises to be even better!
